These guys are brave.
Picture this- You slowly trudge into battle sitting high atop a platform so everyone on the battlefield can see you. You have the lowest armour value of any armoured target and you're carrying two big guns (which is like holding a large neon sign blinking 'Take Me Out First!'. They rarely last three turns, but they do definitely do some damage on the way out.
Their ballistic skill is a little less than their Black Guardian Defender counterparts (try firing a pair of heavy weapons while standing on stilts). The amount of damage they do is governed by the sheer quantity of shots they can fire and by your choice of weaponry. (The War Walker in the photo has been equipped with a pair of StarCannons- I like the old style ones, they look 'beefier').
Intact and Guided by a Farseer, a unit of 3 will destroy or severely damage an enemy squad each and every turn. As they begin to take damage, the remaining War Walkers perform much the same function as a Heavy Weapons platform, providing fire support for other squads. |
