Rangers

They follow the path of the Outcast.

Rarely used drifters and hired guns, these guys are only good at one thing- hitting their target. They find their way onto an Army List when I am not sure about the number of high-toughness targets I will be facing. or when I am assured of a great position in cover where I can hide them from enemy fire.

Where these guys have an advantage over their Space Marine sniper counterparts is that their shots count as AP1 when they roll a 6 to hit. This makes them advantageous to have around when shooting at Wraithguard, Wraithlords, Talos, Terminators, Bikes and large Bugs. They stay at home for anything else. As with all other snipers, casualties will cause a pinning test.

Deployed in cover they get a 4+ cover save from their Chameleoline cloak, which incorporates a clever Eldar device which adjusts the color and pattern of the fabric to match their surroundings. When cover is not available they may be screened behind a Guardian Defender squad and may use their 5+ normal armour save or a 6+ cover save, even if caught out in the open. With Fortune cast on them, their cover save gets re-rolled, making them very difficult to kill.

Rangers slip through rugged terrain much easier than most troops and will roll an extra die for difficult terrain tests. In addition, they count as infiltrators when the mission allows for them.
