The Falcon Grav-Tank

Expensive. About 200 points for a well equipped Falcon, but well worth it against armies with limited ballistic skill and ranged weaponry (Tyranids and Orks).

Why 200 points? To keep this vehicle hunting for a few turns, you'll need some of the optional protection.

  • When some of the enemy shots actually hit your Falcon, a holofield will force your opponent to roll two dice and choose the lowest for each damage table result. This will usually result in a Crew Stunned or Crew Shaken result, rather than the more dangerous immobilized or destroyed results.
  • Spirit Stones will allow you to lessen or ignore any Crew Stunned or Crew Shaken results with a lucky dice roll.
  • A Crystal Targeting Matrix will let you fire halfway through your movement phase, then continue and finish your movement (hopefully into cover, or at least 'hull-down'.)

I also like to give it the belly Shuriken Cannon upgrade. With a second Shuriken Cannon mounted opposite Pulse Laser up top, you'll shoot 6 S6 AP5 shots and D3 S8 AP2 shots at the enemy if you move less than 6 inches. With the Crystal Targeting Matrix you can move 3 to peek around a corner, fire everything, then slip back during the movement phase. Sneaky AND devastating. Gotta love it.

As with all Eldar skimmers, try to deploy and move the unit so it is 'hull down' as much of the time as possible. If you will need to leave it exposed, make sure to move it more than 6 inches (and only fire one weapon) to keep all hits on it 'glancing'.

The Falcon is agile enough that I can usually keep it out of assault range and even if it IS assaulted, your opponent will need to roll 6s to hit it (even if it stands still!). Beware late in the game, especially if your opponent is losing. Sometimes, if desperate enough, they will send a nearby squad to assault it on the slim chance that a lucky dice roll will cripple it, and nobody wants to lose a Falcon to bad luck.
