Before I painted one up, I was concerned that a 5+ save and a Toughness of 6 just wasn't tough enough- why not just play a Wraithlord, I thought. Then I played the big guy a few times and learned a few things about him...
- He's an Independent Character. That means that he can only be shot at if he's more than 6 inches away from another viable target, or if he's the closest target within 12 inches. If your opponent wants to kill him it's gonna have to be up close and personal.
- Up close and personal he's no pushover, either. With A Weapon Skill of 10, an initiative of 5 and a Toughness of 6, most characters in the game will be lucky to inflict a single wound, and only a rare few have a chance at an instant kill.
- Four wounds is a lot on a T6 model and they last even longer if he joins a unit cast with Fortune and gets to re-roll failed save attempts!
Here's an interesting idea to try sometime...
Let the God-Monster join the Seer Council. It works on so many levels...
The Avatar gets a better Initiative and Weapon Skill (from your enhance Warlock) and he gets to re-roll his 5+ invulnerable save (Fortune). Being thicker-skinned (T6) you can allocate hits taken by the Seer Council to your Avatar instead of a weaker Eldar who might be killed outright by a strength 8-10 weapon.
The Seer Council gets an additional wound in all close combats and they become fearless. In addition, your council gains a WS11, S6 member with a power weapon. Suddenly a Force Commander or Chaplain with a Power Fist doesn't scare your Seer Council anymore. For additional Avatar strategies, click here.
